Most of your attitudes are determined by how you view and live your life. You arm yourself for protection with weapons, locks, and alarms; you arm yourself for the work place by training, political correctness, working to get ahead, and promoting yourself; you arm yourself for retirement with a 401K, savings, and insurance. This passage tells you to arm yourself not with the instruments and ways of the world, but with the same attitude of Christ. Will you arm yourself for the human desires that work well in this world? Or will you arm yourself with the righteousness of Christ by living for the will of God? You live to please the Lord when you live for His will. Doing what pleases the Lord draws you into the full work of His presence and empowerment. It is out of this relationship of loving Christ and obeying Him through the power of the Holy Spirit that His direction and purpose is revealed.
How can you arm yourself with more of Christ?
Isaiah 50:4 shows how beginning each day will arm you for this, “The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue, to know the Word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.”
Psalm 90:14 shows how to arm yourself with Christ’s love and joy, “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 shows how to carry Christ throughout your day, “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 13:14 helps arm you for traversing life’s challenges each day, “Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”
Joshua 24:15 keeps you focused on arming yourself with right choices, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
Philippians 2:5 shows how to arm yourself with the right priority, “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”
Let Christ in you consume the world, so that your life overflows with His presence and love!
Romans 11:36 “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever!” (NIV)
