GROWING IN CHRIST

"Who's Your Friend"

Date published: 10/22/2013
James 4:4 “You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.” (NIV)

Recognizing that any area where you are a friend of the world makes you an enemy of God should be a spiritual alert for change. Ask God to sift your heart for any areas where God has been displaced by you being a friend of the world. As a marriage cannot survive when an adulterous relationship exists, neither can your relationship with Christ survive when you share or have replaced Christ with something else. When God no longer controls, motivates, impassions, or drives an area of your life, that area becomes like a cancer that destroys the intimacy and work of Christ in you. You must first proclaim Christ as your absolute Lord who controls and dominates every aspect of you. Hebrews 12:28-29 describes the relationship you should have with God,“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire.’” Second, spend time with God asking Him to reveal areas of compromise. Allow God to reveal, convict, and transform any area not submitted to Christ, so that you are not at war with God. Every area you discover and submit to Christ results in a greater filling and empowerment by the Holy Spirit. Some areas of compromise will require God’s direction and strength to help you in stepping out boldly, believing that God’s relationship and abundance is far greater than any area of compromise.

God desires a devoted relationship with you, so that He can enjoy

His creation and unfold a rich and purposeful life for you.

Job 22:23-28 “If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored: If you remove wickedness far from your tent and assign your nuggets to the dust, your gold of Ophir to the rocks in the ravines, then the Almighty will be your gold, the choicest silver for you. Surely then you will find delight in the Almighty and will lift up your face to God. You will pray to Him, and He will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows. What you decide on will be done, and light will shine on your ways.”  (NIV)
