Matthew 3:8 “Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.” (NIV)
God calls you to be fruitful. John 15:8 “This is to My Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be My disciples.” Christians often mistake fruitfulness with “doing” for God. Fruitfulness in your Christian life is an opposite paradigm of fruitfulness in the world’s ways. Your fruitfulness as a Christian occurs through a deeper revelation of the sin in your life. A deeper revelation of sin in you comes through a deeper relationship with God. As you come to know God better, the impurity of your life becomes more obvious in the presence of a perfect God. The revelation of sin in you gives you the opportunity for repentance. It is out of a repentant heart that the many barriers you place between God and you are removed. As these barriers are removed, God’s Spirit is free to work in your life to produce fruit. The greater your repentance, the greater God’s work will be in you which results in greater fruit being produced. The world’s way is work, effort, and duty to produce fruit. The way of the world results in greater pride, but not intimacy with God. God’s way is humility and a contrite heart which produces greater intimacy with Christ resulting in a greater filling and releasing of the Holy Spirit in you. God wants you to live constantly in His presence so that out of your relationship with Christ you grow in love, devotion, and fruitfulness. John 15:4-5 “Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.”
Isaiah 32:16-17 “Justice will dwell in the desert and righteousness live in the fertile field. The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever.” (NIV)
