"Get Off the Tee Box"

Date published: 01/16/2012
1 Peter 5:8 “Be self-controlled and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (NIV)
Satan is alive and real and eager to prey upon you with the right opportunity.  Unfortunately we often tee ourselves up for satan by placing ourselves in a compromising situation or by bending the truth.  You must recognize that you are a new creation, but a new creation that lives in an old body and unfortunately with memories of your old ways.  2 Corinthians 4:16 says, “Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”  The process of wasting away and renewal can be hurtful and discouraging if you leave the process to yourself.  The better way is to submit totally to Christ’s Lordship.  Be a living sacrifice that is totally available to God for not only renewal, but also His kingdom work.  Romans 12:1 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship.”  Each day allow God to filter every aspect of your life through Him during your day.  Begin each day with a quiet time to allow God to prepare your mind, will, and heart for the day’s action.  Pray throughout the day committing every aspect of your life to Him.  Listen throughout the day for God’s whispers so that you can react to His leading.  Using the Bible should not be restricted to a specific time, but any time you need truth, direction, or just encouragement.  Living your life this way fully engages the Holy Spirit to not only live through you, but to also put down satan’s work.  The result of this lifestyle is reflected in Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
Romans 13:14 “Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”  (NIV)
