"Overcoming the World"

Date published: 12/19/2011
1 Peter 2:23 “When they hurled their insults at Him (Jesus), He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats.  Instead, He entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly.”  (NIV)
Do you think if this was you that your human nature might come out?  “How dare they talk to me that way?” “Why are they inflicting suffering on me?”  “How can I get back at them?”  “I’m going set them straight for what they said.”  Statements like these seem to flow so naturally from your heart, while Jesus’ response seems so foreign to ours - “He entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly.”  As humans we tend to take things into our own hands while Jesus trusted God for the consequences.  Jesus knew by placing Himself in God’s hands that God could not only deal with what was happening, but also control His heart and actions.  God who created you and the universe is more than capable of taking you through the travails of life.  God knows every detail of your life and has an eternal purpose for you.  You can entrust yourself to your God who says in Romans 8:28, “In all things God works for the good of those who love Him.”  Is your God big enough to entrust not only your circumstances to Him, but also your total life?  Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”  Your trust is a reflection of your faith, but your faith is a reflection of how well you know the One you place your faith in – Jesus Christ!  Are you getting to know Him daily through your times with God in reading the Bible, prayer, and seeking His face?  Know Him and walk in peace and freedom.
Romans 12:21 “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (NIV)
