1 Peter 1:6-7 “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith – of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire – may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.” (NIV)
School, vocation, athletics, skills, and hobbies all require education, training, and practice to experience success. If you are going to accomplish or participate in any of these, you need to prepare for them. This passage, along with many others, indicates that trials and suffering might be a natural consequence of life - even for Christians. The key to enduring these times and succeeding in them is your faith in Jesus Christ. Just as in the physical world you educate, train, and practice, so in the spiritual world you read the Word, pray, walk with Jesus daily in relationship, and live out His calling through the power of the Holy Spirit. If you sit idly by relying solely on your faith, you make yourself vulnerable to being overcome by the world. But if you exercise your faith by learning more about God, putting it into practice, trusting Him, and living out His calling in your life, then “praise,
glory and honor will result when Jesus Christ is revealed.” Exercise your faith and experience God’s power in your life!
1 Corinthians 2:4-5 “My message and my preaching were not with wise and
persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.” (NIV)
