"Experiencing the Light"

Date published: 10/17/2011
John 12:35-36 “The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going.  Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light."  (NIV)
As a child of God, you have the choice to walk in light or darkness.  Each has its own consequences.  Those who live outside the Lordship of Jesus find themselves in a dark world that brings constant darkness, confusion, and purposelessness.  But what about those whose hearts strive to live under the Lordship of Christ?  They live in light and are known to be “sons of light!” Every follower of Jesus should desire to live fully in the light, because it is in the light that you experience the warmth of God’s love, the fullness of His personality, and the power of His presence.  Unfortunately every follower of Christ has areas where he/she walks in darkness.  It is these pits of darkness that rob you of God’s provision and blessing.  You do have a choice, and your choice should be resoundingly to walk in the light.  Your choice to walk in light instead of darkness does not have to be a struggle if you expose yourself to more of Jesus by coming into His light.  Prayer, Bible reading, Scripture memory, and fellowship with other believers provide great venues for God’s light to shine into you.  Come to and dwell in the light and the light will produce the change in you.  Matthew 11:28-30 says, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."  By pouring more of God’s light into your life, the transforming power of the Holy Spirit will not only keep you in the light, but will also produce Jesus’ light through you to others.  Out of God’s light the darkness in your life will be consumed.  Others will truly see you as “sons of light!”
Daniel 12:3 “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.” (NIV)
