John 6:35 “Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me will never go hungry, and he who believes in Me will never be thirsty.’” (NIV)
God created you to have your life fulfilled by Him, not by the things of this world. You can tell what defines your life by your motivations and priorities. Whether your priorities and motivations are positive or negative, they will not bring fulfillment unless they flow out of your relationship with Jesus. Romans 14:8 says, “If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” Jesus said that a life that is centered and sustained by Him is a life that will never be hungry or thirsty. Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” You have a choice in what sustains your life. Your intentions and heart may be to follow Jesus. But does every activity and motivation flow out of your walk with Jesus or are they sustained by the ways of the world? Jesus said that when He provides your direction (bread), sustains your activities (bread), and brings them to a conclusion (bread), you will experience a fulfillment (no hunger) and a satisfaction (no thirst) that brings you true happiness and purpose. What is the food you consume for life? Do you begin each day having breakfast with Jesus? Do you fill yourself with the Word of God and commune with Jesus in prayer? Psalm 90:14 says, “Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” Do you snack on Jesus throughout the day recalling His Word and talking through your challenges as they occur? Do you have supper with Jesus by intensely seeking deeper truths in His Word while pouring out your heart to Him as you intently seek His face? Jesus is your Bread of Life. Everything else is a weak substitute that will not satisfy your hunger or your needs. Fill your heart with the Bread of Life so that every aspect of your life will be satisfied. Making Jesus your “bread of life” will allow you to know God as El Shaddai – the Almighty God Who strengthens and satisfies His people.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 “But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." (NIV)
