"Be Fruitful"

Date published: 01/11/2011

Matthew 13:23 “But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it.  He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."  (NIV)

God wants every follower of Christ to be fruitful.  The key to being fruitful is to be good soil for the Word of God.  Being good soil is described as one who hears the Word and understands it.  To understand is not merely a cognitive process, but also includes acting upon it.  A fruitful harvest is produced when you hear and obey the Word of God.  God desires a fruitful harvest to flow from your life.  The fruitful harvest occurs when you live according to His ways and purpose.  There is one more factor that determines God’s fruitfulness for your life - “what was sown.”  The more you sow His Word into your life, the more fruit you will bear!  Deuteronomy 6:6-9 “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children.  Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”  Hear, read, study, memorize, and meditate on His Word.  Allow the Word of God to instruct, correct, and train you.  But, most importantly, let it speak to you so that you can respond in obedience, producing a fruitful harvest!

Psalm 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night.  He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season.” (NIV)
