GROWING IN CHRIST

"Experiencing Christ First-Hand"

Date published: 01/29/2011

John 4:42 “They said to the woman, ‘We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.’” (NIV)

Today too many people come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior but do not experience Jesus first hand.  They live their lives in Christ with a second hand faith.  The extent of their experience with God is what others say and not what they have experienced.  God wants every follower of Christ to experience Him first hand – not just through what others say.  God desires a personal relationship with every follower of Christ.  John 17:24 says, “Father, I desire that those also, Whom You have given Me, may be with Me where I am, to see My glory, which You have given Me because You loved Me before the foundation of the world.”  The woman was faithful in sharing what Jesus had done for her, but the people wanted a first-hand experience with the living Christ.  Luke 6:40 says, “A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.”  God desires that every follower of Christ be trained so that they too can experience Christ first-hand.  Who has God placed in your life for you to model Christ, train them how to walk with Christ, and encourage them to live faithfully in their calling in Christ?  Pray for Christ to give you someone to invest your life in so that they can also say, “we have heard for ourselves.”

Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." (NRSV)
