1 John 2:6 “Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.” (NIV)
Have you ever been told to do just what another person is doing? Your first reaction would be to look closely at who you are to imitate. You would study their every move. You would want to understand everything about them. Your knowledge of them, as well as your adherence to what they did, would determine your success in imitating them. In the same way, if you are to walk as Jesus walked, you need to intimately know Him. You need to know His purpose, His character, His heart, His relationship with the Father, and His obedience. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 11:1, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” For you to walk as Jesus walked, you need to be absorbed into His life so that Jesus’ life becomes your life. That is why the word “abide” is often used for obedience. You obey more as you know Jesus better - you know Jesus as you abide in Him - and you abide in Jesus by spending time with Him. Obedience flows from abiding in Jesus. Go deep into the Word of God and deep into prayer with your Lord, and you shall intimately know Jesus!
John 15:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.” (NASB)
