"Reflecting Jesus"

Date published: 08/24/2015
Romans 4:9b “We have been saying that Abraham's faith was credited to him as righteousness.” (NIV)

I am becoming more and more captivated by righteousness through sanctification. A Christian’s journey begins by professing Jesus as Lord and Savior through faith, which makes him righteous. Your righteousness to sanctification starts as you live out your life in Jesus by faith. Today’s verse is about righteousness to salvation, but it can also speak to you about righteousness by sanctification. You become a Christian by faith, but you come to know and experience Jesus through each small step of faith. Every day you are faced with a multitude of decisions and situations which can cause you to trust God by faith or to trust yourself. Every time you trust God by faith “righteousness is credited to you,” because you have invited Jesus to take control of your life. Ephesians 4:24 describes this as, “To put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (NIV)

Allowing Jesus to take control allows Him to not only work in your life, but it also allows you to begin to know Him better. How much of Jesus you want in your life will depend on how much you are willing to trust Him. The wonderful thing about your life taking on righteousness is that it begins to multiply exponentially. Have you ever put together a thousand piece puzzle? In the beginning it is slow and tedious. You do not see the picture and have trouble putting it altogether. As the puzzle comes together, the pace picks up and the placement of pieces becomes easier. You remember pieces, see the picture more clearly, and can now more easily put it together. The same is true with righteousness. The more you trust Jesus the more you experience Him. Each new situation becomes easier to step into by faith. Soon His presence and ways are so natural that faith is like a beautiful picture that God has painted that you can see and understand. John 8:32 says, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (NIV)  Each time you trust God and step into Him by faith, it is “credited to you as righteousness.” You become a little more like Jesus, but more importantly, you thrive on knowing and experiencing Jesus.

2 Corinthians 3:18 “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (NIV)
