"Good Soil"

Date published: 04/10/2010

Luke 8:15 “But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.” (NIV)

The image of seed vividly portrays the birth and growth of a Christian.  Your life in Christ begins by the planting of seed (Word of God) being planted in you and the Holy Spirit harvesting it for your salvation.  The seed then begins the process of growing to maturity.  Mature seed not only experiences a greater abundance of life, but is also available to God for His use.  This verse gives two keys to experiencing and reflecting the life of Jesus: Retaining and persevering in the Word.  As a follower of Christ you must retain the Word of God to grow.
John 15:7 says, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.”  It is not enough to just hear the Word, but also to keep and abide in it, while moving Toward Him Who has called you.  This process of abiding in the Word allows the good seed in you to grow and mature, so that Christ is shown in your life.  Abiding is important, but persevering is the key to becoming mature in Christ.  Hebrews 12:1 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”  Your change and growth in Christ will often encounter resistance, hardship, and sometime persecution, but it is the seed that endures and perseveres that reaps a full and bountiful harvest for Christ.  As you walk with Christ in the coming days seek Him daily not only to be refreshed, taught, and led, but also to strengthen your perseverance in being a faithful witness to the living Christ!

Matthew 25:21 “His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant ! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'” (NIV)
