Luke 1:38 "‘I am the Lord's servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May it be to me as you have said.’ Then the angel left her.” (NIV)
The season of Advent is the recognition, preparation, and celebration of the birth of Christ. Advent not only celebrates His birth, but also the new birth and life offered to us through His death on the cross and His resurrection. New birth and life are always preceded by obedience. When Mary was confronted with the news of her pregnancy, she responded in obedience. Her obedience was not begrudging or just casually responsive, but a total submission to God expressed by her availability to serve Him in any way. It was out of her total submission and obedience that she experienced God’s full abundance and blessing in her life. John 14:21 says, “Whoever has My commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves Me. He who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I too will love him and show Myself to him." You receive new birth in Christ by responding to His call upon your life. You experience the abundance and fullness of Christ’s call through obedience. As you approach Christmas, ask God to reveal areas of disobedience – take those areas of disobedience that are blocking God’s full work and purpose in you and box, wrap, and give them to Christ. It is out of your obedience to Christ that you fully submit to Him so that you might experience the fullness of His life in you.
John 15:10-11 “If you obey My commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have obeyed My Father's commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” (NIV)
