"Living on the Rock"

2 Samuel 22:37 “Thou dost enlarge my steps under me, and my feet have not slipped.” (NASB)

God desires every follower of Christ to experience His abundance, peace and security. This verse gives you a visual on how this happens. God “enlarges your steps under you” through the processes of sanctification (becoming like Christ) and Lordship (yielding your life to Christ). As sanctification and Lordship take hold, your steps enlarge giving you a firmer footing on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ. Inversely your steps remain small when you live your life on the periphery of God’s calling and desire for you.  Not only have your steps not enlarged, but your foundation becomes very unstable. Picture you balancing yourself on the deck of an aircraft carrier or on the tip of a flag pole. Which footing would you prefer? When your footing is small, you not only experience little of God’s abundance for you, but also your unsteady foundation makes you vulnerable to sin and the uncertainties of life. The process of Lordship and sanctification occur through hearing God’s Word in your life, responding to His calling, and then obeying. It is difficult to get to obedience if you do not hear. Begin each day by giving God the opportunity to speak into your life through prayer and the reading of His Word so that you can respond in obedience. The natural result of your obedience will be “enlarged steps that will not slip!”

Psalm 17:5 “My steps have held to Your paths; my feet have not slipped.” (NIV)

Psalm 94:18 “When I said, ‘My foot is slipping,’ Your love, O Lord, supported me.” (NIV)

Psalm 121:3-8 “He will not let your foot slip — He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you — the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm — He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (NIV)

2 Samuel 22:37 “Thou dost enlarge my steps under me, and my feet have not slipped.” (NASB)
