This verse should cause every Christian to ask some fundamental questions on their life in Christ:
Do you know how to share the gospel message of salvation to others?
How many people have you led to a saving relationship in Christ?
How many people have you presented the salvation message to in the last year?
I asked these questions to several Christians recently and received virtually no positive answers. It seems today our emphasis is on the 99 and not the one. Jesus made each Christian’s purpose clear in Matthew 28:19 when He said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,” and in Mark 16:15 "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” Contrast the results of sharing the Gospel of Christ in Luke 16:24 against not sharing the way to salvation in Luke 15:7: “So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'” Can we believe in God enough to live a life that loves others sufficiently to share the Gospel message of salvation? Or are we anesthetized to having compassion and love for those destined for hell. The cry to Father Abraham illustrated the finality of death and the horror of death for unbelievers.
In Psalm 98:2 you see how God is doing His part in the salvation of all: “The LORD has made His salvation known and revealed His righteousness to the nations.” The question is whether you are willing to be God’s mouth, heart, hands and feet in bringing others to Christ? All have been touched by God, but are you willing to be used by God for another’s salvation? Be a part of illuminating God’s divine work, so heaven’s rejoicing abounds, while hell’s agony withers.
