"Overwhelmed - Part 2"

Date published: 04/27/2015
Mark 9:15 “As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet Him.” (NIV)

Last week we began a three part series on being overwhelmed by Jesus. Your life in Christ was not meant to be barren, but fruitful. It is the fruitful Christian who experiences the overwhelming presence and work of Christ. A fruitfulness not born out of your talents, but out of the overwhelming presence of God in you. The fruitfulness of your walk in Christ will have a direct bearing on being overwhelmed with the wonder and love of Jesus. The following three Scriptures will take you deeper into the overwhelming presence of God:

Matthew 22:33 “When the crowds heard this (He is the God of the living), they were astonished at His teaching.” (NIV) God calls every follower of Christ to not only be a disciple, but to also disciple others. Being a disciple does not depend on the time you have known Christ or the training you have had, but rather being a vessel for God to not only pour into you, but to also use you. 2 Timothy 4:17 points to God being your source of life, “But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it.” (NIV)

Luke 20:26 “Astonished by His answer, they became silent.” (NIV) What will astonish the world will not be your wisdom, but the wisdom God expresses through you. God does not want to highlight your capabilities, but demonstrate His power through you. It is God’s love, grace, and power that will astonish the world. Luke 21:15 describes the power of God speaking through you, “For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.” (NIV)

John 7:21 “Jesus said to them, "I did one miracle, and you are all astonished.” (NIV) Jesus was amazed how little the disciples and those around Him believed in the power of God. God wants to astonish you and others by doing many things through you to demonstrate His power, love, and work. Yours is an astonishing God who has great things to do in the world through His followers. Luke 9:1-3 outlined for the disciples how to trust Him, “When Jesus had called the Twelve together, He gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and He sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He told them: "Take nothing for the journey — no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra tunic.” (NIV)

2 Corinthians 1:12-14 “Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, in the holiness and sincerity that are from God. We have done so not according to worldly wisdom but according to God's grace . . . And I hope that, as you have understood us in part, you will come to understand fully that you can boast of us just as we will boast of you in the day of the Lord Jesus.” (NIV)

Do you know someone who needs this message on growing in their relationship with Christ? If so, forward this devotion to them as a blessing for their growth in Christ.
