"The Why - The How - The Purpose"

Date published: 04/06/2015
2 Thessalonians 1:11 “With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of His calling, and that by His power He may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.” (NIV)

Would you like to know God’s purpose in your life? This verse will give you great insight into the why, the how, and the purpose for walking in Christ. As a Christian God does not want you to live aimlessly in Christ, but wholeheartedly for Him, so you can be counted worthy of His calling. Here is the why, the how, and the purpose:

  • The “why” is to live a life worthy of His calling. You live a life worthy of God’s calling by not only submitting to Him whatever is necessary, but also by being willing to sacrifice anything that stands in the way of God’s calling. Psalm 25:14 shows how this lifestyle opens you up to God’s calling, “The LORD confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them.” (NIV)
  • The “how” is by the power of Jesus! It is not you, but Christ working in you. Ephesians 2:10 shows how emptying yourself to God creates a vacuum for God to empower your life, “For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (NIV) You know God’s calling, submitted everything for His calling, and now you are empowered to do His calling through the work of Christ in you through the power of the Spirit.
  • Finally, you are fulfilling God’s purpose in Christ by your faith in Him. Your life begins producing fruit through the work of God in you. The fruit God bears in you not only points more people to Jesus, but it also grows you through your increasing knowledge in God. Your faith is no longer a second-hand faith that only hears of God’s work in others, but a first-hand faith that radiates God’s glory through His work in you. Colossians 1:10 describes it beautifully, “And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God” (NIV)

Do not spend another minute wondering what your calling is, but submit everything to God now, so He can not only show His calling to you, but also manifest it to you through His power in the Spirit. How wonderful it is to see God’s handiwork in your life.

Ephesians 1:17-19 “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe.” (NIV)
