Mark 11:22 “Have faith in God," Jesus answered.”
How often do you respond to life’s challenges by proclaiming your faith in God? The pace of life can become so hectic that you see no way of getting through it. Your financial obligation can become so insurmountable that you are ready to give up. The demands people are making upon you can exceed the time and capacity you have.
When life is confronting or overwhelming you, Jesus said, “Have faith in God.” Jesus amazed others as He modeled and taught this throughout His life. Mark 10:32 beautifully shows how Jesus lived out a challenge in life: “They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid.”
Notice no one was excited or elated at the prospect of going to Jerusalem. They all knew that Jerusalem might mean trouble, persecution, and even death. Is not much of life the same way? Those around you think of life is going one way, but you know in your heart that it is not right. Rejecting where others are going causes fear to grip you as you consider loss of friends, respect, rejection, and failure.
If your personal life as well as life around is consuming you, “Have faith in God.” This faith during difficulty and danger is what allowed Jesus to comfortably and restfully sleep in Matthew 8:24-25: “Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.”
Jesus explains in Matthew 10:28-31 why you can rest and act on your faith, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So, don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” You are in God’s hands. Your life not only rests on, but is also dependent upon your faith in God.
In 2 Timothy 3:1 Paul warned, “Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times.” This warning was a call to faith which Jesus spoke to in
Luke 17:5-6: ‘We (disciples) need more faith; tell us how to get it. Even if you had faith as small as a mustard seed, the Lord answered, you could say to this mulberry tree, May God uproot you and throw you into the sea,' and it would obey you!’
Jesus was saying that it was not how much faith you have but acting on the littlest amount of faith will not only bring you in line with where God is taking you but will also grow your faith. I remember taking by grandson on a roller coaster. He was scared the first time but using no hands thereafter.
God will grow your faith the more you step into it. Hebrews 10:23 admonishes you to step out in faith: “Without wavering, let us hold tightly to the hope we say we have, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.” Keep your hope squarely on Jesus and not yourself or your surroundings. Have faith and step out!
John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.”
