GROWING IN CHRIST

"Trusting Love"

Date published: 10/20/2014

Psalm 85:10 “Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other.” (NIV)

We begin this week’s devotion with the verse we ended with last week. This verse gives a beautiful picture of faith, obedience, and what follows. Love is at the core of the gospel. The gospel expresses God’s love for you. Out of His love for you, God desires a transformative opportunity to express His love through you to others. Your faithfulness to God is demonstrated as your love for Him grows and God is able to express His love in an increasing measure to others. Psalm 89:14 declares, “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; love and faithfulness go before You.” (NIV)

Love is not always easy. Succeeding or failing in love reflects God’s work in your heart, His Lordship in your life, your sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, and your faith as you trust God instead of yourself. Love is often the opposite of man’s will in so many things, but your faithfulness to God and faith to trust Him with the circumstances transfers the results from you to God.  Psalm 100:5 reminds us, “For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.” (NIV) You can almost say that love and faithfulness are inseparable, because it often boils down to trusting God’s love and faithfulness. Will you choose God by trusting Him with your situation or will you react in your flesh? Trusting God will always surpass anything you can do.

What results from love and faithfulness? - righteousness and peace kissing! Trusting God produces righteousness, which God loves more than anything else. Psalm 33:4-5 affirms, “For the word of the LORD is right and true; He is faithful in all He does. The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of His unfailing love.” (NIV) Living out a Godly life that reflects and trusts God results in peace; this peace will point others to Jesus. Righteousness apart from action is cold, but righteousness produced in a follower of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit is beautiful, powerful, and transforming.

Psalm 100:5 “For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.” (NIV)
