"Total Abandonment"

Date published: 08/18/2014
Proverbs 15:9 “The LORD detests the way of the wicked but he loves those who pursue righteousness.” (NIV)

This verse gives you an insight into what God loves and what He does not love. To experience more of God’s blessings, direction, and power, you want to focus your life on those things that God loves. The beatitudes in Matthew 5:3-12 is a great place to see where God’s blessings are bestowed. Matthew 5:6 is especially descriptive for experiencing more of God, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (NIV) Is your God a casual experience or a consuming fire? Is your relationship with God sporadic or is it a necessity? Is your obedience to God optional/relative or is it non-negotiable? Are your goals self-absorbing or self-sacrificing for God? If you truly believe there is a God, your answers to these questions will be for what God loves instead of what suits your interests.

If you are living for God, you are pursuing righteousness. If you are not living for Him, you are pursuing wickedness. It is only by pursuing God with abandonment that you experience the fullness of God’s love and righteousness in your life. Pursuing your own ends with your own strength leads to wickedness. Psalm 16:2 describes it this way, “I said to the LORD, ‘You are my Lord; apart from You I have no good thing.’” (NIV) Jesus died for you to pay the price of your sins, so that you could be justified through faith. The question is…do you want to experience the fullness of His life in you through the power of the Holy Spirit? Make four affirmations today: 1) Your pursuit of God is what propels your life. 2) Your relationship with God is more important than the air you breathe. 3) Obedience will be reflexive. 4) You will live as a living sacrifice, so that God can fully manifest His life through you. Let there be no other path but your pursuit of righteousness.

Psalm 24:3-6 ”Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. He will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God his Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face, O God of Jacob.” (NIV)
