"Exuding Righteousness"

Date published: 04/15/2017
Proverbs 10:6a “Blessings crown the head of the righteous.”

The deeper I go into the heart of Jesus, the more I love righteousness. The depth of my relationship with Jesus has allowed righteousness to become like the air I breathe. As my walk with Jesus has deepened, my relationship with Him has taken on a unique exhilaration. It is almost like breathing fresher and cleaner air. God’s presence and ways have brought a joy that only comes from His life in me. This delight for Christ will continue to grow as I desire more of Him. Psalm 11:7b describes it this way: “The upright will behold His face.” (NASB) The depth and passion of your relationship with Jesus can take  you into His presence in such a way that you begin to metaphorically behold His face as you experience greater measures of His love and grace. In Exodus 34:29b, you see the effect on Moses after he was in God’s presence: “Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him (God).” (NASB)

Righteousness can be a choice or a natural result of your life in Christ. Having to choose between righteousness and the ways of the flesh and the world can create a tension between you and God. Constantly battling your fleshly desires can cause you to live under the power of law instead of the power of Christ. Choose a deeper relationship with Christ where Christ’s righteousness within consumes the desires of the world and the flesh. 1 Corinthians 15:56-57 describes the power of Jesus over law: “The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (NASB) This tension exists because we just do not feel we can quite trust God with the details of our lives. The wonderful thing about a flourishing relationship with Christ is that you begin to feel uncomfortable outside of the refuge of His power and love. Proverbs 10:29a says: “The way of the LORD is a refuge for the righteous.”

Live your life in Christ by making righteousness your friend. The first part of Psalm 11:7 says: “The Lord is righteous. The Lord loves righteousness.” Grasping God’s love for righteousness should be all the motivation you need for yielding to the work of the Spirit to live through you in righteousness. God desires His love for righteousness to pour over into your life through the benefits of righteousness.  Look at God’s extravagant response to righteousness:

Proverbs 10:7a: “The memory of the righteous will be a blessing.” (NIV)

Proverbs 10:11a: “The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life.” (NIV)

                             them.” (NIV)
