GROWING IN CHRIST

"Living in Greatness"

Date published: 05/20/2018

Luke 7:28 “I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” (NIV)

Jesus said John the Baptist was the best example of “man” yet he was still the least in the kingdom of God. The best that earth could offer provided little splendor compared to a Christian’s position in the kingdom of God.

Life as a Christian is a herculean effort of living in the world, but not of the world. As a child of God your heart’s desire should be God first. Your pursuit in life should be the kingdom of God – not the things of this world. A rich and fruitful Christian life does not have to be a struggle, but rather a joyous response to God’s life in you. This more easily occurs when you live life on the three- legged stool of Kingdom living: Intimacy in Christ, Perspective of Eternity, and Releasing God’s Power.

You can choose to battle the world throughout every minute of your life or live in the intimacy of Christ, the first leg of the stool. The world is filled with turmoil, sorrow, loss, and failure. On the other hand, your life in Christ is victorious because of His work on the cross. Your ability to live here is dependent on the intimacy of your daily walk with Christ. Live as Jesus did in John 17:3 “Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.” (NIV) The second leg of your stool is your perspective of eternal  life. You can live in the brokenness of this world or in Christ’s victory on the cross where you are forgiven, redeemed, and sealed for eternity. Your hope is no longer determined by people, the broken institutions of this world, and the finite timetables of life, but in your hope in Christ.  Paul says in 1 Peter 2:10: “Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” The final leg of the stool is releasing God’s power. You were not redeemed to wait out your finite body’s end, but to be a shining star for the Lord. Allow God to use every gift He has given you; express His life through you at every opportunity ; and through faith be a vessel of His power when life presents itself. Jesus encouraged this in John 17:20-21 “…I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.” (NIV)

John was an amazing person. He was true and faithful to God, bold without hesitation, and humble for God’s will and purpose. John left an indelible impression on all he touched, yet the least Christian far exceeds him in the kingdom of God. Do not sit out your life in Christ but walk in the intimacy of Christ with perspective and power as God radiates His kingdom through you.

1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” (NIV)
