GROWING IN CHRIST

"God's Overwhelming Love For You"

Date published: 07/11/2016

Psalm 51:1 “Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your unfailing love; according to Your great compassion blot out my transgressions.” (NIV)

God’s love can penetrate everything that is happening in your life. Take a minute to let that thought sink in. The breadth and depth of God having mercy on you is quite spectacular. Putting this in perspective monetarily might look like a person who makes $7.50 an hour receiving notice that they are inheriting three billion dollars! The opportunities for change in the way this person lives would be difficult to wrap your mind around. The depth of human love that most people experience is often shallow, inconsistent, and conditional. Now imagine someone stepping in and loving you in such a spectacular way that you feel you absolutely do not deserve – just as Christ did for you at salvation in Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (NIV)

*        Imagine your need is not only great, but also is vitally important and someone steps in and says he will deliver just as promised in Psalm 6:4 “Turn, O LORD, and deliver me; save me because of Your unfailing love.” (NIV) *        Imagine being in the darkest of places and someone steps up and pulls you out as God promises in Psalm 31:16 “Let Your face shine on Your servant; save me in Your unfailing love.” (NIV)

*        Imagine living in absolute futility and hopelessness and someone says, “I can change that for you”  just as Jesus did in Ephesians 2:4-5 “But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved.” (NIV)

*        Imagine someone saying he will enliven each day you live as God did in Lamentations 3:22-23 “Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (NIV)

*        Imagine someone saying he will always care for your best interests as if you were his child as declared in 1 John 3:1a “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (NIV)

*        Imagine someone saying he would give up his life to protect you as Jesus did in John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this that he lay down his life for his friends.” (NIV)

*        Imagine someone saying they will be there for you no matter the circumstances as God promises in Psalm 86:5, “You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to You.” (NIV)

*        Imagine someone would provide comfort and refuge at any time and at any cost as God promises in Psalm 36:7 “How priceless is Your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of Your wings.” (NIV)

I do not have the certainty of even one of these things from any human being. Only God promises His love to me in this way. This type of love overwhelms me.  Coming face to face with the immenseness of God’s love should not only take you to a greater awe of Him, but also place you squarely in His hand!

Psalm 103:11 “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him.” (NIV)
